Elders Livestock Management Solutions
ELMS is a package of the industry's most advanced production management systems designed by Australia's leading practitioners in veterinary medicine, animal nutrition and animal management.
It involves practical and easy to use techniques that are proven to help animals use feed, pasture, fodder crops, grains and supplements much more efficiently and effectively.
ELMS can help you deliver increased weight gain, fertility and production regardless of the location of your enterprise. It can significantly reduce the cost to your feedlot or grazing business of sick, under-performing or infertile animals. It also substantially increases the number of animals you can potentially carry, turnoff or feed from year to year.
ELMS provides the support you need to find simple and effective solutions to everyday production, stock health and nutritional problems. It helps to improve animal health and welfare, reducing stress and increasing the quality of meat, milk and wool.
How does ELMS work?
ELMS is driven by the latest science, with an emphasis on developing practical ways to deliver high levels of productivity at every key stage in the production cycle.
ELMS is based on the premise that the profitability of animal production enterprises is fundamentally determined by the efficiency with which an animal converts the available feed into meat, milk, wool or new progeny.
In most Australian livestock grazing enterprises, animals are consuming between 2 and 5 times more feed than is required for the amount of meat or wool that they produce. This represents a significant loss of efficiency, one that potentially increases the cost of production.
The ELMS production management systems or ELMS Protocols can be used individually or linked together to deliver a cumulative benefit in production and profit. These protocols are designed to optimise rumen function to improve efficiency and productivity at all stages of The Livestock Production Cycle.
The Livestock Production Cycle below outlines the ELMS protocols that are aligned to specific livestock management events. Click through to find out more about the different protocols.
What results have been achieved with ELMS?
ELMS Advanced Management Protocols are proven in trials and in practice to produce exceptional productivity gains. ELMS has been trialled in a number of locations throughout rural Australia so regardless of your location and farming practices ELMS will help make your business more profitable by reducing the amount of feed your animals need to produce meat, milk, wool or new progeny.
Some of the examples of results ELMS has achieved:
"The ELMS Advanced Joining Protocol increased the AI conception rates of our cattle by 18% even on the first calf heifers. It's all about farming smarter and having ELMS as a resource has helped me get more out of my herd." Donald Patch, 'Bunya Creek Angus Stud', Dalby QLD.
"The ELMS Advanced Green Feed Protocol has given us better utilisation of our pastures, which has enabled us to be more cost efficient. This in turn has enabled us to expand our herd and distribute the saved expense throughout the rest of our business." Robert Hickey, 'Glenrock', Guyra NSW.
"The ELMS Lamb Feedlot Protocol has given my business the opportunity to double its feedlotting capacity. Without the feedlotting help we received from Elders our business would have a big hole in it and there is no way that our paddocks could support the size of the flock we are running." Geoff Tiddow, Esperance WA.
"The ELMS Advanced Lambing Protocol and The ELMS Advanced Joining Protocol have allowed us to achieve additional healthier lambs on the ground and allowed us to market those lambs younger and heavier. We also found great results as it allowed us to market our merino lambs at a top price at 11 months of age." Ian Griffith, Greenethorpe NSW.
ELMS is exclusive to Elders and fully supported by our ongoing commitment to the long-term profitability and sustainability of Australian agriculture. Elders continues to make a strong commitment to training staff on the applications of ELMS and we now have an ELMS expert in most locations throughout Australia.
